Happy Wednesdays!

On this shoot I decided to use earth tones and I gave the model a smokey eye using a brown toned palette. I contoured her cheeks to accentuate her bone structure. I placed emphasis on her brows and I added a shimmery color at the corner of her eyes to give it more pop. That day I recalled was a pretty windy and so I decided on a pony tail, this helped to show off the beautiful lines of her shoulders.

To You!

In this shot we decided to experiment with a bit more color and I used my Ben Nye Lumiere palette in gold and green. We were aiming for a more beauty concept and decided to use flowers just to add to the image. For blush I used a pink toned shade from my La Femme palette with a pink toned gloss.

Fab Wednesdays

This image of Damaris was captured by Photographer Alain Green . For this look I applied warm pink tones from my La Femme Blush palette. Normally I like to layer blushes ,starting out with a cream based blush. After application I will set the makeup with translucent powder, which is followed by a powder blush with a  similar hue, which is added to intensify look. By doing this type of layering it gives the skin a more moist finish.
To give Damaris's face more character I used a darker shade of foundation ( select one or 2 shades darker)  to contour below her cheeks, jawline and nose. For a more sophisticated look I decided to pull her hair away from her face, which would show off her features and allow us to get better shots of her body. The hair design is important as it can be distracting depending on the type of concept you are trying to achieve.

Look of the Day

This is a classic clean beauty makeup look and it was shot... You guessed right.. In  my garage, what better way to bring the studio to you. It was a hot day and this model just flew in from New York and was able to test with us. A clean beauty is a basic look that requires you to blend the foundation into the skin, as well as cancelling out red or purplish undertones that might be present either under the eyes, the corner of the nostrils or even on the cheeks. In this picture I added a bit of liner which was smudged out with powder and a gloss on the lips.

Look of the Day

In this image I used earth tones with pigment placed strategically on the face that I want to be highlighted. It is important when applying makeup that we pay attention to detail especially in photography as flaws can be magnified. I tend to examine the makeup from every angle to ensure that it is blended properly. A good tip is to study your pictures to see where you need to focus your attention, it can be quite revealing. Being your own critic is how you fine tune your skills.

When doing print work, one has to constantly strive for perfection. Also if you know beforehand that the picture will be shot in black and white whether on yourself or on the model, a good way to create definition is to contour the face. By contouring we create shadows on the face whether by using a darker shade of foundation or with powder. Contouring the face will add more dimension and character to the image, by creating for example a more defined nose or stronger jawline.

Fresh

In this image we utilized wind technology, which in lay man terms we call "a Fan"- (smile), to give that blown out effect.

Looky Loo

I have always found from experience that the more prepared you are before a photoshoot the better your outcome will be. First things first, when you are approached to work on a project always request to see the models who you will be working with for the day. This cuts down on the surprise factor and it will allow you to work at a more quicker pace because you have the image in mind of what look you are trying to achieve.
The model pictured here had beautiful oval features and so we decided to focus on her eyes. Her brows had to be redrawn to set the framework for her face.

Hottt !!

Brandi Alexis's look was clearly what we call a beauty shot, the photographer Brouj decided to give the image a blown out effect. I decided to use earthy warm tones to pick up the undertones in her skin. Minimal makeup was used as foundation was applied to even out her skin tone.

Being Creative

I love to add something unique when I am designing a makeup look. In this picture with Laura I decided to utilize some wire I had from the craft store and I decided to create head piece. Believe me I had some sort of vision in mind and as I began to twist and shape the wire it all came together. I guess its similar to our  life and our daily journey as  everyday it takes shape and  eventually forms into something significant.
For Laura, I decided to soften her features and so I  applied  warm colors with the focus being on the eyes. In the next image we went a bit more dramatic.. check it out
