Dita Vonteese DIY Makeup

Dita Vonteese
Did you know?
The uber glamorous ‘Queen of Burlesque‘ does her own styling, hair and make-up. From coloring her hair at home herself, to dying her eyebrows; Dita is a firm advocate of DIY when it comes to beauty and style.

What does Dita have to say about having flawless skin.

“Flawless skin is the most important thing, then red lips. Red lips don’t look good on blotchy, uneven skin.” – Says Dita.

Dita's advice on sunscreen is?
It doesn’t matter what moisturizer you use. Just make sure you put it on right after cleansing, while your skin is still damp. That way your pores can absorb it while they are still open. So choose any cream you like for the face and body. By the way Dita tries to avoid being in the sun as much as possible.

Which look is Dita a fan of, matte or glossy?

A fan of the era when women had flawless matte skin, Dita prefers matte over glossy make-up.

“Always, glowing is not my thing. A matte finish diffuses any features about my face that I’m not comfortable with, while shine highlights them.”

How does Dita attain those perfect brows?

Dita’s perfect eyebrows are done in house too! Top tip for always having pretty eyebrows with
or sans make-up is dying them.

“It’s easy with Just For Men hair dye.” – Says Dita.

Her tip for the perfect liner application.

“When I go a while without putting it on, it’s always rough at first. But when I’ve been applying it daily, it’s “whooosh;” it goes on seamlessly. Generally, getting that perfect, flattering line is hard! I look down into a mirror to apply it so I can see the shape and match them up better. Make sure not to pull your eyelid out at the side, because when you let go, the line will be a completely different shape.”

Dita loves her vintage red lipsticks and guess where she keeps them?
Dita’s trademark burlesque red lips are as glamorous as her lipsticks. A true vintage enthusiast, she has a collection of vintage lipstick tubes where she places her favourite shades of red after cooling them in the fridge. Glamour all the way! She got hers on Ebay.

Beauty Dish - Jessica Alba

Her best tip from mom.
"Mom always told me to have a proper cleansing and moisturizing routine. No matter how tired I am, I cleanse and moisturize every morning and night. I wear minimum SPF 20 daily, whether in a tinted moisturizer or just sunscreen," says Alba.

Her biggest makeup don'ts.
"Don't overly powder your face—just apply loose powder where necessary. And you don't always have to wear foundation; using a tinted moisturizer and spot concealer is a great trick to give a youthful glow to your skin," Alba suggests.

Her no-makeup secret.
" Always curl your lashes, even when you don't have mascara," she says, revealing, "I usually don't use mascara that much unless I'm looking really tired and puffy-eyed. I curl my eyelashes and brush a little mascara on the tips."

Her beauty rules to live by.
" Try to drink 2 liters of water per day—it will do wonders for your skin. Eat a well-balanced diet and try to eliminate highly processed foods. Lastly, get some exercise in daily, even if it's just 30 minutes a day for five days a week."

Beauty Confidential - Amber Rose!

Amber Rose
You might have your opinions which I am sure are worthy but you can't deny that Amber Rose is gorgeous. Amber sports a flawless canvas which makes a basic makeup application look spectacular, this due to of her clear skin. Amber recently spilled her beauty secrets to Elle Magazine and I was surprised  to discover that she uses a similar beauty product as another known superstar.

When about her beauty regimen this was Amber's response..
Thank you so much! I’ve always been good about moisturizing. Every morning and every night, everyday. What I do, and this sounds kind of weird, but I buy these pint-size containers of raw African shea butter from street vendors, I microwave it, and after I shower, I rub it everywhere. Even on my scalp and face. Nothing works better. And it’s cheap!

Amber also revealed her favorite spot treatment was neosporin and for cleanser she keeps it simple by using Dove soap .
So I have to really look into the Africa shea butter to see if it really works and I will be breaking out my neosporin to heal my blemishes.

DIY Milk Bath

I know you all must have come to the conclusion by now that I am really into natural beauty methods. I honestly am surprised by myself but I have become more aware that the less chemicals we use is better for our over all health. Cindy Crawford, former Super model now mogul in her own right has remained flawless even in her 40's and I was curious to explore some of her beauty techniques so we can all benefit.
One of Cindy's beauty secret is using milk , which she sprays on her face. The milk is combined
with water and she mists it on her face throughout the day. The lactic acid present in the milk is known to soften the skin. I am going to raid the refrigerator as we speak! This secret was a well known beauty method of the Egyptians as Cleopatra was known to take daily milk baths for her beautiful skin> I hope you are taking notes!

Making your own milk bath is quite easy, find out how after the break.

Beauty Secrets from Around the World!

I came across some interesting tips from  the author of Passport to Beauty Shalhini Vadhera who explores beauty around the globe in her book.  Here are some tips we can all try out and have fun experimenting with to see if they work.

Eye makeup remover
In Europe the women use Almond Oil as a makeup remover which is easy on the eye, while it removes the makeup it nourishes the skin (this sounds yummy).

Lash Growth
Castor oil is another beauty secret that is applied to the lashes, it is said it can stimulate growth and strengthen the lash. (I will certainly give this a try).

Soften Lips
Honey, is used to moisturize lips in Poland. It acts as a humectant and draws moisture from the air. ( It moisturizes and you get the bonus of something sweet on your lips)

Have fun trying experimenting, this certainly won't hurt if you try!
