Creating Dimension

It is important to know how to accentuate the face by creating dimension instead of using just one foundation which will create one flat surface. In order to create dimension and draw the focus toward the center of the face you can use a darker shade of foundation around the hairline, along the jaw, leaving the center of the face for a lighter shade of foundation . This will draw the focus towards the face.

Contouring For Men!

Have you ever noticed those billboards with men with extremely defined features? If you weren't paying attention just take a look at the Calvin Klein ads or browse through GQ magazines. Even though these men do have a strong facial structure, makeup is used to enhance their bone structure . If you are ever on a photo shoot and need to create definition on the model, check out this great video which will be helpful for aspiring artists or for men who want to create a stronger look!

Jaw Reduction!

The jaw line is an important area where contouring can make a world of a difference. If you have a double chin or jowls or just want to have a more defined angular look to your face, contouring is your secret weapon.
You can either use powders or foundation, that are a shade or two darker than your skin tone to create an illusion of depth.
  • If you are using powder, albeit dark shadows that are matte, bronzers- no shimmer please. Start out by sweeping the powder under your jawline, from the base of the chin to your neck, shading it in carrying the contour under the ears so it flows naturally.
  • If you decide on foundation, the same rules apply just blend properly and set with powder.
Here is a jaw reducing video that will give you a jump start right after the break.

Mapping it out!

I came across this great visual map which illustrates where we should apply our contours and highlights.
Contour - darker foundation or powder
Highlight- your regular foundation or a light shade  that will be blended in with the contour for a     blended finish.

Contouring Guide

Here is a visual break down of the different places where contouring is applied to achieve that defined look.
Row 1
The model uses her foundation brush on the top half of cheek to create a highlight. Secondly she uses her contouring brush in the cheek bone to apply a darker shade to create the illusion of a trimmer more defined face/

Row 2
Model then applies contouring at the temple which will make the cheek area more prominent. She then proceeds to apply the makeup around the hairline. This is done to draw attention to the center of the face.

Row 3
Contouring is applied at the jawline, to create a more defined jaw. This helps to trim the area visually. If you have double chin this will work wonders. A beauty blender is  then used to soften the lines of the contour so it doesn't appear harsh. Blending is important to making the contour look as natural as possible.

At the end, you have the final product of a beautiful contoured face.

Even though it is a special time, it can be some of the most challenging times for women due to hormonal changes. It takes more effort to get ready  if we have places to go. Many of us skip the makeup routine because we just feel blah.

To get over this rut takes effort and I know quite well having been pregnant twice how challenging it can be to get that pregnancy glow even when I wasn't feeling glowing.
