Even though we said good bye to Summer, we didn't say good bye to bright shadows according to Cosmopolitan bright shadows are a hot fall trend that we should want to be rocking right now. The seasons are really flowing nicely and this makes transitions quite easy as spring approaches with all the colors it has to offer. So keep those bright colors out and start rocking them.

I just happen to come across this great picture that reflects the depth of eye shadow shades that work beautifully for women of color. This picture illustrates the depth of colors that works well with darker skin. Take note of the richness of the blues, plums and reds. Tips for Standout EYES !

We all love beautiful makeup, especially when they zoom in on the eyes. The trends for this season indicate that the eyes are a major focal point.If you want to get stand out eyes here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Tip 1 Choose Shadows that POP!
Select vibrant shades of blues, purples, greens etc.Play around with contrasts, for instance enhance your brown eyes with a fab blue color. Start light and build the intensity.


Tip 2 Prime them UP!
Wearing a good primer can enhance the shadow's intensity and keep your makeup om much longer. If you are out of primer use your cream shadows as a base on your lids to build up the intensity by layering powdered shadow over it.


Tip 3 Just a Bit of White! 
Using just a bit of white liner or powder near the tear duct can instantly brighten an open up your eyes. If you are hesitant use a nude liner which is the color of your waterline instead.

Spring 2012 Forecasts!

We can rest easy because bright colors are on for Spring 2012, it seems that the fashion world is in love with color period. I am not complaining! Taking a peek backstage at Luli Fama Swim wear designer at the MBFW Swim 2012 we see the models rocking green and pink eyeshadow. We can't get more colorful than that.

Color Me Beautiful!

 Finding the right makeup can be a trial and error process, this is how we learn what works and what doesn't for us. If you don't take a chance and try a product out you will never know if it works for you or how you feel about yourself when you wear it. A great green shadow might look good against your skin but you are simply not feeling that the color reflects your personality.
Women of color face challenges in selecting colors that suit their skin tone, as there is just so much to choose from.
 I recommend that you  select colors that are intense and deep. For example choose deep blues, rich plums, purples, greens. Colors that are rich and have great pigment which equals to great staying power. Take a trip to the makeup counter and apply swatches of color to your hand checking to see if the color shows up strongly against your skin.
If it looks muddy, take a pass as it is a sign of poor quality.

R U Ready For Fall?

Can you believe that Fall is walking up the driveway and almost at our door steps? You know what that means, we have to get ready, lipstick.. check... shadow.... If you are not ready and not too sure what is in for Fall let's do a quick rundown.

Bold lips (Reds and Berries)

You can either do a full lip of blasting bold color or if you are like me you can do a tint of the color on your lips. Just use your fingers and dab it on your lips.For longevity blot your lips and reapply in a dabbing motion.

Lining your top lids will add a fresh twist to your beauty regimen.All you need is your liquid liner and if you are in the mood top it off with fab lashes to give your eyes a pop. This will sure to revitalize your look.
Start out by lining your eyes, starting at the center to be safe and slowly lining the top half of your eye and make a swoop or wing like line for added drama. Remember to line the eye from corner to corner for a complete effect.

The Many Uses of Makeup!

Eye shadow has so many uses, one small shadow can be used as your blush (depending on the color). It can double as an eye liner, you only have get your liner brush damp, dip then apply.It can also be used as a brow powder (matte is best). Also you can use it to color your lips. Extremely versatile.

Another great way to be versatile is to use your blush to give your lips some color. There are now many products on the market that are marketed to be used on lips, eyes and cheeks. However if you need a little dab of color just dot some on your lips and you can add a bit of gloss if you so desire.

Makeup Inspiration !

Here are few makeup ideas I put together that I hope will inspire you in how to wear your eye shadow, whether you choose a bold or understated approach is all in your hands!

Here are just some eyeshadow looks you could try if with your blue dress. For the bold lip remember to keep the eye makeup light as the lip should be the emphasis. I selected plums which is not too much of a contrast with the blue dress but will be sure to make your eyes stand out. For the greenish blue look which has a touch of silver shimmer, gives the eye a sultry look, great for a night out. The colors have the right hint of blue mixed in with the green to give it dimension. I also added a smokey eye, which is a look that is very classic and versatile.

Things I Love at the moment!

These products have proven themselves to be extremely durable, how can you beat Ben Nye's blush wheel where you get 6 cream blushes for the price of one $16. They are of excellent quality and high pigmentation. For La Femme Blush powder which I use for a natural glow for around $4.95 it is a great deal if you can overlook the packaging. Sometimes great things come in unexpected things. This blush is very diverse and can be used on a wide cross section of skin tones.

Yaby's cream shadows albeit, very pricey $155.00, this product I would recommend for a makeup artist kit, is excellent waterproof makeup that gives outstanding results.

A Peek in=to Fall

Even though we are into the heights of Summer it doesn't for us to get a bit prepared for Fall trends. Check out the looks for fall from Chloe' and Donna Karan for 2011.

We see the continuation of the flawless finish foundation (Donna Karan 2011) and the chocolate smokey eyes from Chloe'. The softness of the smokey eyes is enhanced with a dark black or deep brown liner which is smoked out with browns. Get your warm earth tones ready as browns will be ruling this fall along with a flawless fresh face. Tweet

Makeup Matching Rule # 1

It's a NO NO to match makeup to your outfit.

I know this is a bit much, I am sure this was for a costume event , but I know you get the point with this image. So if your lipstick, lashes and eyeshadow all match your outfit make sure it's for a costume party or Halloween. Eyeshadow is to be matched with your eyes and not your clothing.

Eyeshadow for Brown Eyes!

Brown eyes can get away with almost any eyeshadow color from plums to greens. Be wary of certain colors that can look muddy against your skin. I have found that if the pigment in the eyeshadow is not string enough it comes out muddy.
